Best Practices for Farmers and Hosts
If you want to receive volunteers on your land or project:
- Choose a platform (or more than one) and register as a host.
- Write a clear and honest listing including:
- What kind of help you need (gardening, building, teaching, admin etc.)
- What you offer in return (meals, accommodation, learning)
- Your location and available dates
- Daily routines and expectations
- Add pictures of your site, accommodation, food, and previous volunteers if possible.
- Mention Living Earth Namibia in your listing to attract aligned volunteers.
- Reply promptly to enquiries — reviews matter.
- Offer a meaningful experience: teaching, cultural exchange, and storytelling often matter more than just work.
You can also link to your job post on the Living Earth Job Portal and in your WWOOF/Workaway listing.
Best Practices for Namibians Looking to Volunteer Abroad
If you are a Namibian youth or Living Earth member looking to volunteer overseas:
- Choose a platform like Workaway, WWOOF, or Worldpackers.
- Create a profile that shows your skills, interests, and values (especially sustainability, organic farming, cultural exchange).
- Browse listings in countries you’re interested in — filter for regenerative agriculture, eco-villages, or permaculture.
- Apply to hosts with a clear, respectful message. Mention that you’re part of Living Earth Namibia.
- Prepare for your trip:
- Get a passport (and visa if needed)
- Consider basic travel/medical insurance
- Discuss expectations clearly with your host
