Quadbakkies & Edisco
Namibia’s Electric Future for Farmers
Welcome to the electric mobility revolution made for rural Africa. In the heart of Namibia, a powerful idea is taking root — one that combines cutting-edge technology, affordable design, and local servicing to meet the unique challenges of farmers and villagers across our semi-arid land.
Meet the Etec Range of Quadbakkies and the Edisco electric car – two vehicles built with the future of African agriculture and rural mobility in mind.

Quad Bakkie
The Quad Bakkie is a powerful and nimble electric quad with a 2,000W motor, 400 kg load capacity, and independent suspension for bumpy terrain. Perfect for farms, construction sites, and land care teams, it includes a dropside bin, LED lighting, and high/low range gearing for hauling loads or equipment. Optional bench seating, sprayers, or solar charging make this a multi-tool vehicle for regenerative land management.
What Is a Quadbakkie?
A Quadbakkie is an electric four-wheeler, developed for rugged off-road terrain, small-scale farmers, and remote settlements. Picture a cross between a quad bike and a pickup (bakkie) – but electric, silent, and sustainable.
Designed by Etec Mobility and adapted to Namibian conditions through a partnership with Etec in South Africa and Living Earth and DIS Engineering here in Namibia, these vehicles offer:
- Low maintenance (no engine oil, spark plugs, or exhaust systems)
- Incredible torque for uphill loads
- Affordability – starting at N$90,000
- Zero emissions, helping reduce air and noise pollution
- A top speed of 60 km/h – perfect for short-distance trips between fields and markets
The Quadbakkie is not just a vehicle. It’s a tool for independence.
Why the Quadbakkie Matters
In most of Namibia, smallholder farmers still rely on donkeys or second-hand diesel vehicles that are expensive to maintain and unreliable on rough roads. Fuel costs are skyrocketing. Mechanical repairs are out of reach for most villagers.
The Quadbakkie is a game-changer because it:
- Reduces fuel dependence: Charge it with solar panels or at electric stations.
- Simplifies logistics: Farmers can transport tools, water, and produce with ease.
- Builds resilience: Lower maintenance costs mean more money stays in the community.
- Inspires youth: Electric vehicles represent the future – and Namibian youth are ready to be part of it.
Imagine young farmers using clean tech on their family plots, women transporting goods safely, and communities running local deliveries with no fuel bills.
What Is the Disco e-Car?
Disco E-car
The Disco E-Car is a tough, no-nonsense electric utility bakkie built for African conditions. Designed for rural roads, bush tracks, and off-grid operations, it combines robust suspension, high ground clearance, and simple electronics with clean, silent electric power. Ideal for farms, conservation teams, municipal services, and cooperatives, the eDisco E-Car is a low-maintenance, fuel-free alternative to traditional pickups. Whether you’re moving tools, produce, or people, it gets the job done with zero emissions and lower lifetime costs. Built in and for Africa.
The Disco E-car is a compact electric city car, ideal for urban and peri-urban users, schools, businesses, or cooperative use in villages.
With its 5-door design, spacious interior, and modern features, the Edisco is perfect for:
- Teacher transport
- Shop and clinic runs
- Co-op use by farmers’ associations
- Small business deliveries
- Or even as a family vehicle in towns
Built in Otjiwarongo by DIS Engineering, the Disco E-car is designed to be affordable, easy to maintain, and locally serviced in Namibia.
Local Support with DIS Engineering
No new tech can succeed without support.
That’s why Living Earth has partnered with DIS Engineering, a trusted Namibian service provider, to ensure repairs, servicing, and spare parts are available inside Namibia.
This eliminates one of the biggest concerns around electric vehicles: downtime.
Quadbakkie buyers will get peace of mind, knowing there is a full ecosystem of support behind them.
☀️ Powered by the Sun
One of the most exciting aspects of these vehicles is that they can be charged using solar energy.
Living Earth and its partners are working on affordable solar charging solutions that can be installed at farms, schools, cooperatives, or rural energy hubs.
This means total energy independence: no fuel costs, no pollution, no middlemen.
Just free power from the Namibian sun.
Who Is It For?
The Quadbakkies and Edisco are ideal for:
- Smallholder farmers
- Permaculture sites
- Eco-villages
- Town councils
- Teachers and nurses
- Young entrepreneurs
- NGOs and rural projects
- Community cooperatives
Whether you need to carry chickens, compost, vegetables, tools, or groceries — there is now an electric option that fits your budget.
The Bigger Vision
Namibia is ready for the green transition, and it doesn’t have to wait for foreign aid or imported systems that don’t work in our context.
Quadbakkies and the Edisco are built for Africa.
This initiative is part of a larger vision to create sustainable livelihoods, cut energy costs, and support local innovation.
It connects with Living Earth’s regenerative development model, aiming to empower rural Namibians to thrive in harmony with nature, using modern tools built for local needs.

More Electric Utility Vehicles for Light Transport and Sustainable Mobility in Namibia
As Namibia moves toward a more sustainable, regenerative future, we recognise that not every transport need calls for a full-size bakkie or heavy-duty 4×4. That’s why Living Earth also offers a range of light electric vehicles (EVs) — designed for farmers, cooperatives, tourism operators, and community projects that require affordable, low-maintenance, and eco-friendly transport solutions.
Our smaller electric bakkies and utility EVs are ideal for short-distance transport, last-mile delivery, and light-duty field work. They are whisper-quiet, emissions-free, and low-cost to operate, making them perfect for settings where fuel is expensive or access to maintenance is limited. These vehicles complement our larger eBakkies and eDisco solutions, helping to build a complete electric mobility ecosystem for Namibia.
While these vehicles may be less common in Namibia today, they are an important part of the transition to decentralised, regenerative mobility. They enable job creation, reduce fuel costs, and support climate resilience by cutting emissions and promoting local productivity.
