What if learning didn’t have to stop when you leave the classroom?
For young people today, having extra skills can open doors to new opportunities. Whether you want to start a small business, develop a practical hobby, learn how to grow your own food, explore sustainable living or simply understand more about the world around you, Living Earthβs online learning platform gives you an opportunity to keep learning. ππ
The Living Earth Learning Platform is designed around practical knowledge that can be applied in everyday life, communities, gardens, farms and future businesses. The platform focuses on regenerative living and skills that are relevant to Namibia and African environments.
π Your Education Can Go Beyond Your Degree
University and school can give you valuable knowledge, but there are many practical skills that you may not learn in a traditional classroom.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn about:
π± Permaculture and sustainable gardening
π³ Agroforestry
π Beekeeping
πΎ Organic and regenerative farming
π§ Water harvesting
πΏ Soil health and natural growing methods
π Sustainable and regenerative living
These skills can complement your existing education and potentially become the foundation for a new project, side hustle, business or community initiative.
π Interested in Beekeeping?
One of the exciting areas of learning connected to Living Earth is beekeeping.
Beekeeping is about much more than producing honey. It introduces you to pollination, biodiversity, ecosystems, food production and the fascinating social structure of a bee colony.
Through our beekeeping content, you can learn about life inside the hive, including the roles of the queen, drones and worker bees, bee behaviour and how honey is produced.
You can also learn what it takes to become a beekeeper, from education and equipment to regular hive inspections, choosing a suitable location and understanding the costs involved.
And if you’re not ready to keep bees, you can still become a bee supporter by planting indigenous flowers, providing water and avoiding harmful pesticides and fungicides. ππ»
π± Start with Permaculture
Living Earth’s Intro to Permaculture course is another opportunity to develop practical knowledge.
The course introduces learners to the principles of permaculture and how we can work with nature to create productive and resilient systems.
You can learn about topics such as:
π± Understanding permaculture
πΊοΈ Reading landscapes and site design
π¦ Healthy soil, fungi and bacteria
π§ Harvesting and storing rainwater
π» Annual and perennial plants
πΎ Seeds and seed saving
π± Garden maintenance
π₯ Harvesting and preserving food
The course is designed to help learners move beyond simply understanding ideas and begin thinking about how these principles can be applied in real-life environments.
π‘ Skills Can Become Opportunities
Learning an additional skill doesn’t mean you have to completely change your career.
It could become something you do on the side.
A young person who learns about beekeeping could eventually explore honey production. Someone who learns permaculture could start a home garden or community garden. Someone interested in agroforestry could explore farming and land restoration.
The Living Earth Learning Platform is designed to help people move from knowledge to practical application, and potentially from practical application to enterprise and community leadership.
